Danika the Rose

One rainy autumn afternoon in 2017 Jazimina approached master storyteller Odds Bodkin to ask if he might be interested in crafting a bespoke fairytale inspired by Dvorak’s Moravian Duets; the duets themselves were inspired by traditional Moravian folk poetry and were full of lovelorn maidens, roses, forbidding mothers, and dukes in towers: ripe for storytelling. Bodkin was interested, and almost immediately a story began to take shape in his mind. After two years of collaboration sponsored by Electric Earth Concerts and the Harris Center for Conservation Education, Danika the Rose was born.

An unshakeable kinship with the natural world, a courageous heroine, and love triumphant over greed unite in Danika the Rose, a melding of story and song for our tumultuous time. Soprano Sarah Shafer and pianist Emely Phelps joined Jazimina and Odds Bodkin to premier Danika the Rose in Peterborough, New Hampshire on October 6th, 2019.
